Effective 8 October 2026
The short version
- Tabbi is free and open source under the MIT License.
- It comes as is, with no warranty.
- Be decent in Party: no offensive names, no abuse of the service.
1. Who these terms are with
These terms are between you and Ethan Chen ("we", "us"), who makes Tabbi and runs the friends service and this website. By using Tabbi, the friends service or tabbinotch.com you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use them.
2. The app and its license
The Tabbi app and its source code are licensed under the MIT License. That license, not these terms, governs what you may do with the code: use, copy, modify and distribute it, keeping the copyright and license notice. These terms add only what the license does not cover: the friends service and the website.
The name Tabbi and the cat icon identify this project. Please do not use them in a way that suggests your fork or product is the official Tabbi.
3. Other services
Some tabs work with software and services from others: Claude (through your own claude command and Anthropic account), Anki and AnkiConnect, Spotify, Apple Music and your calendar.
Their own terms apply to your use of them, and we are not responsible for them.
4. The friends service
Party uses a free server we run. While using it, you agree not to:
- choose a display name or pet name that is hateful, harassing, sexually explicit or impersonates someone;
- harass other people, or join parties you were not invited to in order to disrupt them;
- overload, probe, scrape or attack the service, or get around its limits;
- use it for anything unlawful.
We may remove names, friendships or parties, or block a user, when we believe these terms were broken. The service is offered for free and may change, be limited or stop at any time; we will try to give notice on GitHub first. The privacy policy explains what it stores and how to delete it.
5. No warranty
Tabbi, the friends service and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. Timers, reminders, plans and Claude's answers can be wrong or late. Do not rely on Tabbi for anything where a missed alert or a wrong answer could cause harm.
6. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or time, arising from your use of Tabbi, the friends service or this website. Because all of them are free, our total liability for any claim is limited to 50 US dollars. Some places do not allow these limits, so they may not apply to you, and nothing here limits rights you have by law that cannot be waived.
7. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be heard in the state or federal courts located in New York, New York, unless the law where you live gives you the right to bring it there.
8. Changes
We may update these terms. When we do, we will change the date at the top and keep the history in the Tabbi repository. If you keep using Tabbi after a change, the new terms apply.
